Muriel was a past President of the Manitoba Music Educators and also of the Winnipeg Music Festival, where she also conducted many award-winning school choirs in her position as Music Consultant to the Winnipeg School Division.

She was a member of the Wednesday Morning Musicale; on the Executive of Retired Women Teachers' Association; member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society (Alpha Chapter); member of International Toastmistress (Nellie McClung Club); Music Coordinator of Bethesda Church, and belonged to many other associations.

Muriel enjoyed performances of the Winnipeg Symphony, Manitoba Theatre Centre and the Prairie Theatre Exchange. In Winnipeg's Centennial year Muriel formed the Maple Leaf Centennial Children's Choir, which performed for Princess Margaret at City Hall and on many other festive occasions as well as in concert. Muriel was awarded the Order of the Buffalo by the Province of Manitoba.

The Muriel Waldie Bursary is awarded for the most outstanding performance by a School Chorus, Grades 7-12 of a selection by a Canadian Composer.
